How this date calculator works

Enter a start date and the number of years, months, and days to add or subtract. The calculator returns the new calendar date, including the weekday.

Years and months are applied first. If the start day does not exist in the target month, it lands on the last valid day of that month. Days are then added on top and can roll into the following month.

Example date shifts

These follow the same add and subtract rules as the tool above.

When this is useful

  • Deadlines and notice periods

Add 30 or 90 days to a joining date, offer date, or last working day.

  • Course and visa dates

Find an end date by adding years or months to a start date.

  • Month-end dates

31 January plus one month stays in February. It does not become 2 or 3 March.

  • Not an age gap

To compare two birth dates, use the age difference calculator instead of this offset tool.

Frequently asked questions

  • How does this date calculator work?

Pick a base date, choose Add or Subtract, then enter years, months, and days. The tool applies the years and months first, then the days, and shows the resulting calendar date with the weekday.

  • What happens if I add 1 month to 31 January?

The day is kept only if that month has it. 31 January plus 1 month becomes the last day of February: 29 February in a leap year, and 28 February otherwise. It does not spill into March.

  • Are days added before or after months?

Years and months are applied first. Days are added after that, so extra days can roll into the next month. For example, 25 January plus 10 days is 4 February.

  • Can I count backwards?

Yes. Choose Subtract and enter the years, months, or days to go back. 1 March 2024 minus 1 day is 29 February 2024, because 2024 is a leap year.

  • Is this the same as the age difference calculator?

No. This page moves one date forward or backward by an offset. The age difference calculator compares two dates and reports the gap between them.

  • Does the result include the weekday?

Yes. The result shows the weekday with the day, month, and year, using your device’s date format. It uses the calendar date only, not a time of day.

This is a calendar offset, not a legal notice period or court date. Confirm deadlines with the document that sets them.
