How this feet to inches calculator works
Enter a length in feet. The calculator multiplies it by 12 and shows the result in inches, always to two decimal places. Inches = feet × 12.
One foot is exactly 12 inches, so the factor never changes. 1 foot is 12.00 inches. 6 feet is 6 × 12 = 72.00 inches. Half a foot, 0.5, is 6.00 inches.
The box is decimal feet, not a feet-and-inches pair. The digits after the point are a fraction of one foot. 5.5 feet means 5 feet plus half a foot, and half of 12 is 6, so 5.5 × 12 = 66.00 inches, which is 5 feet 6 inches. 5.6 feet is different: 5.6 × 12 = 67.20 inches, or 5 feet and 7.20 inches. To enter 5 feet 3 inches, convert the 3 inches first: 3 ÷ 12 = 0.25, then type 5.25. That returns 63.00 inches.
Any finite number is accepted, including 0 and negatives. 0 feet is 0.00 inches, and −1 foot is −12.00 inches. An empty box shows --. The page does not convert to centimetres. One inch is 2.54 centimetres, but that step is not part of this multiplication.
