How this height calculator works
Enter feet and inches. The calculator turns them into total inches, then into centimetres and metres. Total inches = feet × 12 + inches. Centimetres = total inches × 2.54. Metres = centimetres ÷ 100.
One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres, and one foot is 12 of those inches, so one foot is 30.48 centimetres. 1 foot 0 inches is 30.48 cm. The metre line divides that by 100 and keeps three decimal places, so 30.48 cm is 0.305 m. Centimetres always show two decimal places.
Worked example: 5 feet 6 inches. 5 × 12 + 6 = 66 inches. 66 × 2.54 = 167.64 cm, and 167.64 ÷ 100 = 1.676 m. 5 feet 3 inches is 63 × 2.54 = 160.02 cm. 160.02 ÷ 100 = 1.6002, which rounds to 1.600 m. 6 feet 0 inches is 182.88 cm, and 1.8288 m rounds to 1.829 m. 5 feet 7 inches is 170.18 cm and 1.702 m.
Inches are not capped at 11. 5 feet 14 inches is 74 inches, the same total as 6 feet 2 inches, so both give 187.96 cm and 1.880 m. Decimals are allowed: 5.5 feet and 0 inches matches 5 feet 6 inches. Both boxes must be filled, and each value must be 0 or greater. 0 feet 0 inches is 0.00 cm and 0.000 m. A negative number or an empty box shows --. This page converts the height you type. It does not predict how tall someone will grow.
