How this inch to feet calculator works
Enter a length in inches. The calculator divides it by 12 and shows the result in decimal feet, always to four decimal places. Feet = inches ÷ 12.
One foot is exactly 12 inches, so the divisor never changes. 12 inches is 1.0000 ft. 6 inches is 0.5000 ft. 1 inch is 0.083333…, which rounds to 0.0833 ft. 36 inches, one yard, is 3.0000 ft.
The result is one decimal, not a feet-and-inches pair. The whole number is the feet, and the fraction times 12 is the leftover inches. 66 inches is 66 ÷ 12 = 5.5000 ft, and 0.5000 × 12 = 6, so that is 5 feet 6 inches. 63 inches is 5.2500 ft, which is 5 feet 3 inches. 67 inches is 5.58333…, printed as 5.5833 ft, and 67 = 5 × 12 + 7, so that is 5 feet 7 inches.
Any finite number is accepted, including 0 and negatives. 0 inches is 0.0000 ft, and −1 inch is −0.0833 ft. An empty box shows --. To go back, multiply the feet by 12. 5.5000 × 12 returns 66 inches.
