How this metre to millimetre calculator works
Enter a length in metres. The calculator multiplies it by 1,000 and shows the result in millimetres, always to two decimal places. Millimetres = metres × 1,000.
One metre is exactly 1,000 millimetres by definition. Moving from metres to millimetres shifts the decimal point three places right. 1 metre becomes 1000.00 mm. 0.5 metres becomes 500.00 mm. 0.001 metres becomes 1.00 mm.
Worked examples: 0.025 metres is 25.00 mm. 1.5 metres is 1500.00 mm. 2 metres is 2000.00 mm. 5 metres is 5000.00 mm. Multiplying by 1,000 is the same as dividing by 0.001; the page uses multiplication.
Any finite number is accepted, including 0 and negatives. 0 metres is 0.00 mm, and −1 metre is −1000.00 mm. An empty box shows --. To go back, divide the millimetres by 1,000.
