Education ROI Calculator

Select your university and course — fees load automatically from our database.

How this education ROI calculator works

Choose a university and course. The page loads the course fee and an estimated starting salary from the database. Total investment is that fee. Starting annual pay is salary in LPA × 1,00,000 (or 6 LPA if salary is missing). Over five post-graduation years, pay grows 10% each year. Total earnings are the sum of those five years. Net gain = total earnings − fee, and ROI % = (net gain ÷ fee) × 100.

Verdict bands on this page: 150% or more is Excellent ROI, 80% to under 150% is Strong ROI, 30% to under 80% is Moderate ROI, and below 30% is Revisit Plan. Estimated payback adds the course duration (default 2 years when missing) to the first year when cumulative projected salary covers the fee. If that never happens inside five earning years, payback is beyond the projection window.

Fee values under 1,000 are treated as amounts in lakhs and multiplied by 1,00,000. The gauge ring only visualises ROI between 0% and 200%; a higher printed ROI % can still appear above the ring. Living costs, taxes, and income lost while studying are not included—only the course fee counts as investment.

This is a planning estimate, not a placement guarantee. Compare options here, then confirm fees and outcomes with a counselor or the university.

How to read the result

  • ROI %

    (5-year earnings − fee) ÷ fee × 100.

  • 10% salary growth

Each post-grad year multiplies the previous by 1.10.

  • Payback from today

Course duration + years until cumulative pay covers the fee.

  • Estimate only

Not a guaranteed package or placement promise.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does this education ROI calculator estimate?

A five-year return on the course fee using an estimated starting salary from the course data. Net gain = total projected earnings − course fee. ROI % = (net gain ÷ course fee) × 100. Fees and salary load from the university and course you select.

  • How are the five years of earnings built?

Year 1 uses the estimated starting salary in rupees (LPA × 1,00,000). Each later year grows that salary by 10%. The five annual amounts are added for total earnings. If salary data is missing, the page defaults to 6 LPA.

  • How is ROI percentage calculated?

ROI % = ((total 5-year earnings − total investment) ÷ total investment) × 100. Total investment is the parsed course fee. A higher fee or lower salary lowers ROI; a lower fee or higher salary raises it.

  • What do the verdict labels mean?

Excellent ROI is 150% or higher. Strong ROI is 80% to under 150%. Moderate ROI is 30% to under 80%. Below 30% shows Revisit Plan. These bands are a simple guide on this page, not a bank or regulator rating.

  • What is estimated payback?

Course duration in years plus the first post-graduation year when cumulative projected salary reaches the course fee. If payback never hits within the five-year earning window, the page shows that it is beyond the projection window.

  • Where do fee and salary come from?

After you pick a university and course, the calculator reads fee and salary fields from the backend course record. Fees under 1,000 are treated as lakh amounts (multiplied by 1,00,000). Missing salary defaults to 6 LPA; missing duration defaults to 2 years.

  • Is this a guaranteed placement outcome?

No. It is a simplified projection: fixed five years, 10% annual salary growth, and one starting LPA. Real earnings vary by role, city, performance, and market conditions. Use it to compare options, then validate with a counselor.

  • Why must I select both university and course?

ROI needs a fee from the selected course. Without a matched course that has a usable fee, the score stays as “--” and the year chart does not appear.

  • Does the ring chart change the formula?

No. It only visualises ROI capped between 0% and 200% for the gauge fill. The printed ROI % can still be higher than 200%; the ring simply maxes out.

  • What costs are left out?

Living expenses, lost wages while studying, exam fees outside the course fee field, and taxes are not subtracted. Only the course fee is treated as total investment in this model.
